2025: Wk of 6/29-7/5; New Nook and WIP Update
KNITTING NOOK MOVE
I have a new knitting nook!! I miss my over the garage knitting nook but I'm happy to have my stepson living there so the pros are better than the cons. When he moved in, I moved my knitting stuff to the TV area. This has created tension as my "devil cat" does not get along with ANY other pets. This is a constant source of tension between her and my son's two dogs and cat who like to come to the TV area too. I have now taken over the "breakfast room". This room off the kitchen is where we always ate our meals while the kids were growing up. It has windows on three sides and the fourth "wall" is just the countertop along the kitchen sink. I'm loving it since it's so full of light. A baby gate keeps my kitty in the room with me and the dogs away. It still can be used for meals for two as I only use one corner of the table for my knitting/laptop. Now I'm closer to coffee and snacks. 😉😁
HAVERLY DRESS
This is my knitting nook WIP as I need to pay attention as I worked the increases in the yoke and the lace pattern in the skirt. I am loving the color of the yarn. It's my hope it can be worn as a dress and then a tunic to get longer wear out of it. My daughter is very "knitworthy" so I know she will try to get as much wear out of it as possible. She even took the baby sweater I knit for my first granddaughter, that was passed down to her from my stepdaughter, on her trip to England in mid-June and sent me pictures.
The knitting has gone pretty well. I followed the pattern instructions to do the set-up row increases with the smaller needles. Since every third stitch was kfb, this resulted in really tight stitches when I switched to the bigger needles for the lace skirt. Then I messed up the first row of lace. I ended up ripping back and redoing the set-up row with the larger needles and it's been almost smooth sailing since. The only modification I've made so far is to use a picot (#2) bindoff for the sleeves instead of a simple bindoff. I found it in my Cast-On Bind-Off ebook. It's basically bobbles along the sleeve edge. Not sure if I'll do it for the hem bind-off or not. I do wish the skirt was more A-Line. I went up a needle size after the first repeat and plan to continue going up a needle size with each repeat.
HELDIG TANK
This is my TV room WIP since it does not require looking at the pattern until I reach the armholes. It gets worked on in the evenings. Wish I hadn't followed the pattern instructions to use a larger needle for the hems. I think blocking will help. Oh well.
This week was a quieter week so more knitting time. Enjoyed spending the day with my brother and sister cleaning out Dad's house and topping it off with pizza and craft beer at the local brewery. Goodwill was right next door so we got rid of a lot of stuff!! From the cleanout I scored a crocheted Christmas tree angle topper that my aunt made many years ago. I have, but don't use, the crocheted blanket she made me for my wedding. I'll go back up this week to continue the purging. For the holiday I love fireworks so I went to a nearby display on the 3rd and another on the 4th.
This post is part of the Ravelry Year of Projects group. A great group of crafters who share their fiber crafting plans and updates on their progress. All are welcome. A new year starts this week!! Bloggers can join in anytime and use the year format that fits them best.
